I recieved this via email from a fellow lister about our horn playing friend on 03/19/01!

Hello Jaime,

I am a fellow 108 lister and have been burning work time enjoying your photos from Amelia Island...

The horn playing Taurus driver brought back a vivid memory and when I saw you took it in Maryland I am sure it is the same guy...

I was on a traveling fellowship thru UC Berkeley in 1995-6, touring county roads across country, 40K miles and 40 states in nine months in a 76 VW Westy van (my current daily driver, ya right!). Heading north somewhere in Virgina I saw a dog get hit by a car, and while turning around to see if I could help I ended up in a ditch. Driving on I heard a familiar click click click of a crushed CV joint. I was somewhere in DelMarVa when I saw there was a college in Salisbury Maryland and where there is a college there are VW Vans and where there are VW vans there are VW van mechanics...

While chilling out in the "waiting room" (which was really a dusty old van backseat and some greasy magazines), in walks this chipper guy with a cool little box. He introduces himself, whips a tiny little horn out of the box and proceeds to fill the dank little shop with dixieland jazz. Turns out he's out celebrating being in remission from colon cancer. Also turns out the wife wont let him play at home so he drives around practicing in his car! Sound familiar?

My theory (which is mine) is that you took a photo of the same guy, who is obviously still in remission and still driving around Maryland playing a tiny horn cause the wife still wont let him practice at home...

Hey Jaime, thanks for the memory, and the pics from Amelia Island, and all your great posts to the list!

BTW, that Saab looks pretty cool...
